A client operating a fleet of nearly 100 vehicles was seeking risk management advice aimed at accident prevention and thereby insurance cost savings. Driver training had to be targeted effectively, undertaken by a recognised leader in the field known to deliver results and be provided in a manner convenient to the client.

Pound Gates addressed this task in three stages. First we studied the market of motor related service providers to secure an inter-active computer based system which the client’s staff were able to utilise at their place of work. This identified those drivers who would most benefit from driver training on a one-to-one basis.

After reporting to our client we then negotiated a discount from their motor fleet insurer for each driver who undertook the intended training course, thereby offsetting a good proportion of the trainer’s anticipated fee.

Having secured the insurer’s and client’s agreement we then approached the recognised driver training providers to agree costs, the type and level of service and documentary evidence that would be issued in support. Our client’s people are situated at offices throughout the UK. Time spent travelling to a driver training site would have been both inconvenient for the client and expensive in terms of sales time lost. Thus we negotiated an arrangement whereby the training provider would visit the client’s staff, saving our client a substantial, if hidden, cost.
